BREAKING NEWS🔴: COLLEGES TO BE CLOSED DOWN IF....⚠️
✍SIR_OJ
The ongoing strike action by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has significantly disrupted academic activities across all 46 public colleges of education in the country. The strike, which commenced on June 14th, is now entering its third week.
The indefinite strike was initiated by CETAG to compel the government to fulfill agreed arbitral awards, including the payment of an additional month's salary for duties performed by its members in 2022. The strike has had a detrimental impact on students, particularly those at the Komenda College of Education campus.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) is expected to take legal action today June 26th, 2024, directing CETAG to call off the strike so that negotiations can resume. However, the union has maintained its stance, refusing to back down until all of its demands are met.
The NLC has hinted that it may consider dragging CETAG to court in an effort to compel its members to return to the classrooms. It is worth noting that a similar CETAG strike in 2018 led to the closure of public colleges of education after it exceeded 25 days.
If CETAG does not call off the current strike, there is a high likelihood of a repetition of the 2018 scenario, which resulted in the closure of these colleges of education.
